Biocomputing hardware and resources are often the least understood components and often posed a big challenge to biologist wishing to conduct their analysis of any scale. This module aims to demystify and train users on proper utilization, configuration, management and computing resources utilization for bioinformatics analysis.

Generating Biological and Genomics Big Data

Basic Scripting and Programming

A more advanced module where participants are coached on the finer skills of data analytics such as automating tasks, sequence manipulation, pipeline constructions and optimization for large datasets. This module is most suited for anyone who plans to carry out complex tasks/large datasets or simply to acquire more control and skills in their analytics.

Who is suitable to join this course?

This course welcomes beginners who have basic knowledge in bioscience or related domains and are interested to have a good grasp and overview about bioinformatics and its applications in various disciplines such as precision medicine, precision agriculture, pathogen research and epidemiology, environmental study and many others. This course is pivotal for those serious about utilizing biological data to give them an edge in their professional careers.

Any minimum requirement for hardware? E.g. a linux laptop?

Normal laptop (Windows, Mac, Linux) would suffice. For programs / software / file systems that work only in certain types of operating system, or requiring high performing computers, we will provide solutions / workarounds / recommendations on sourcing the right platforms.

What are the software do I need to install in my PC? How do I get the installers of those software? Are they free?

We will provide or link you to all the software needed by the course. We will also guide you through on how to setup all programs required during the orientation session. Most of the programs / services used in the course will be open-source, or free for academic / non-profit use. Charge might be incurred (by the software provider) if you opt to subscribe the premium version of the software, or use the software to generate profit, or to continue subscribing the services (e.g. cloud server) after the free trial period.

What do I need to prepare before attending the live classroom?

  1. Turn on your PC / laptop and make sure it has good internet connection. Get a notebook and pen for taking note.

  2. Get yourself a quiet and confortable space with some snack and coffee/tea/favarite drinks. To have the best experience during the live classroom, it is advisible that you turn off or turn away any possible disturbance throughout the session (like phone or any devices with notifications, kids, cats, etc)

  3. Enter the live classroom 15 min before the session starts. You might also want to take a look at the module content before the session starts

How long will the video recordings be kept?

All video recordings as well as other course materials will be kept for 2 seasons (6 months) before they were replaced with the updated versions in the new course seasons. Rest assured that you will always have access to the latest videos and materials if you subscribed to the full course

How to schedule for personal coaching session?

You could schedule a private session with us by filling up the form here. Availability of private sessions is limited and on a first-come, first-served bases. If you prefer faster or direct arrangement, please contact your trainer or email us at training@myqco.com. Don't forget to let us know the agenda of the private session and furnish us with any relevant information while arranging the appointment. This will accelerate the process and enable us to prepare better prior to the session.
